Changes in the perception of quality of life during Reiki's learning

Resumo: OBJECTIVE: This paper aimed to evaluate possible changes in the perception of quality of life by Reiki practitioners during the process of learning Reiki.METHODS: The perception of quality of life was assessed using the WHOQOL-Bref questionnaire. The questionnaire was administered to subjects before learning levels I (n=146), II (n=62) and III (n=48) of the course and after level III (n=10). The results of each question and dimension of the questionnaire were categorized by level and the significance of the score changes were analyzed by Student's t test (individual questions) and ANOVA (Dimensions).RESULTS: The overall Quality of Life perception score was higher before the level II Reiki (n=62) than before level I Reiki (n=146) (ANOVA, P<0.001), and before level III Reiki (n=48; P<0.001). The Physical Domain showed a significant improvement (ANOVA, P<0.001) just after Reiki level I. Regarding the individual questions, there was a significant improvement (Student's t test, P<0.05)in Safety perception, perception of the Physical Environment, Information Availability, Sleep Satisfaction, Ability to Perform its Activities and Ability to Work, as well as a decrease in Negative Feelings along the Reiki training.CONCLUSIONS: We have been able to demonstrate that Reiki significantly improves the perception of the quality of life of the Reiki practitioners during their formation process.

O questionário foi aplicado aos sujeitos antes do aprendizado dos níveis I (n=146), II (n=62) e III (n=48) do curso e depois do nível III (n=10). Os resultados de cada questão e dimensão do questionário foram categorizados por nível e a significância das mudanças de escore foram analisadas pelo teste t de Student (questões individuais) e ANOVA (Dimensões).RESULTADOS: O escore global de percepção da qualidade de vida foi maior antes do Reiki nível II (n=62) do que antes do Reiki nível I (n=146) (ANOVA, P<0,001), e antes do Reiki nível III (n=48; P<0,001). O domínio físico apresenta melhora significativa (ANOVA, P<0,001) logo após o nível I do Reiki.
