Reiki as a support to nursing care for the emotional suffering of cancer patients

Resumo: Objective: To analyze and describe the effectiveness of reiki as a mechanism to alleviate the suffering of cancer patients, to collect effective data for the introduction of therapy in the daily lives of patients affected by malignant neoplasms and to advocate the use of reiki for complementary treatment of cancer patients. Method: Exploratory integrative review on the effects of Reiki on cancer patients. The bibliographic survey for the study was carried out electronically, through the databases contained in the VHL. The descriptors used were: Complementary therapy; Oncology, with Boolean operator AND. Results: Three cross-sectional studies, from 2016 to 2021, in English and Portuguese were analyzed, where they listed the symptoms presented before therapy and compared them with the reports provided by patients after application. In all studies, patients achieved significant improvement. Conclusion: Reiki therapy is effective for relieving psychoemotional symptoms in cancer patients or not, as it holistically visualizes them while respecting their pandimensional aspects.

Método: Revisión exploratoria integradora sobre los efectos del Reiki en pacientes con cáncer. El relevamiento bibliográfico para el estudio se realizó de forma electrónica, a través de las bases de datos contenidas en la BVS. Los descriptores utilizados fueron: Terapia complementaria; Oncología, con operador booleano AND. Resultados: Se analizaron tres estudios transversales, de 2016 a 2021, en inglés y portugués, donde enumeraron los síntomas presentados antes de la terapia y los compararon con los informes proporcionados por los pacientes después de la aplicación. En todos los estudios, los pacientes lograron una mejora significativa. Conclusión: La terapia Reiki es efectiva para aliviar los síntomas psicoemocionales en pacientes con cáncer o no, ya que los visualiza de manera integral respetando sus aspectos pandimensionales.Objetivo: Analisar e descrever a efetividade do reiki como mecanismo de alívio ao sofrimento do assistenciado oncológico, coletar dados efetivos para introdução da terapia no cotidiano dos pacientes acometidos por neoplasias malignas e defender o uso do reiki para tratamento complementar do paciente com câncer. Método: Revisão integrativa exploratória sobre os efeitos do Reiki no paciente oncológico. O levantamento bibliográfico para o estudo foi realizado de maneira eletrônica, através das bases de dados contidas na BVS. Os descritores utilizados foram: Terapia complementar; Oncologia, com operador booleano AND. Resultados: Foram analisados 3 estudos transversais, do ano de 2016 a 2021, em inglês e português, onde os mesmos listavam os sintomas apresentados antes da terapia e os comparava com os relatos fornecidos pelos pacientes após a aplicação. Em todos os estudos os pacientes obtiveram melhora significativa.
