Resumo: OBJECTIVE: Evaluate how regular dance lessons, focused on body flexibility, can interfere in adults’ quality of life.METHODS: Ten adults aged from 40 to 65 years, of both genres, were subjected to 30 dance classes of one hour, twice a week. The lessons were focused on flexibility and dance, worked through five dance styles: Bolero, Salsa, Forró, Samba and Swing. Flexibility was measured using the goniometer device and the quality of life was assessed using the SF-36 form. For data analysis have been used the software SPSS version 18, have been applied Wilcoxon test for nonparametric data and Paired t-test for parametric data, in order to compare pre and post intervention. The level of significance adopted for all testes was p < 0.05.RESULTS: The results comparing the data collected before and after the practice period showed significant gains in flexibility in all joints examined: hip flexion (right=9,36%; left=9,40%), lateral flexion of the spine (right=57,00%; left=54,20%), lateral flexion of the cervical spine (right=38,98%; left=33,98%), lateral rotation of the cervical spine (right=12,90%; left=16,58%) and flexion of the cervical spine (37,30%); and significant improvement in seven of eight quality of life domains of the SF-36.CONCLUSIONS: Thus, we concluded that regular dance practice, linked to a proposal of flexibility, can improve the flexibility and the quality of life of adults.
