Considerations about speech and writing in the school context

Resumo: This paper reflects about speech and writing productions of children during the acquisition of speech and mastership of the writing system. First we emphasize characteristics of speech that are different from what is considered normal or expected by adults regarding children’s productions. As for the writing, we discuss the characteristics that can be observed in children’s written words according to the contributions of phonology. Such approaches are consistent with the premise that the teacher’s action and his/her knowledge about the characteristics of speech and writing can contribute positively to the learning and usage of the mother tongue in oral and writing modalities in the school context. The understanding of what is possible in the usage of both modalities of language, oral and writing, and the attention to what is different from what is expected by others, in the case of “language specific problems” (Corrêa et al., 2003), for example, contribute to more productive teaching and learning contexts. Thus this reflection is intended to improve the action of professionals dedicated to children education, also showing that rich dialogues with Psychology and Phonoaudiology are possible. Key words: speech, writing, orthography, teaching, learning.Este artigo reflete sobre produções de fala e de escrita de crianças no processo de aquisição da modalidade oral e de domínio do sistema de escrita. Destacamos, inicialmente, características de fala que revelam diferenças do que é considerado normal ou do que é esperado das produções infantis pelos adultos. No que se refere à escrita, apresentamos uma discussão sobre o que pode ser observado nas palavras dos textos infantis à luz da fonologia. Tais abordagens condizem com a premissa de que a ação do professor e o seu conhecimento sobre as características de fala e de escrita, também possibilitado pela pesquisa lingüística, pode contribuir positivamente para a aprendizagem e para o uso da língua materna nas modalidades oral e escrita no contexto da escola. Compreender o que é possível nos contextos do uso de ambas as modalidades da língua portuguesa e dedicar atenção ao que se diferencia do esperado, no caso das “queixas de linguagem” (Corrêa et al., 2003), por exemplo, possibilita ambientes de ensino e de aprendizagem produtivos e compensadores. Entendemos que esta reflexão contribui para a ação de diversos profissionais, principalmente os que se dedicam à educação infantil e às séries iniciais do ensino fundamental, além de mostrar que, ao nos referirmos à linguagem, podemos estabelecer diálogos ricos com a área da psicologia e da fonoaudiologia.
