Reason clauses in Chemistry texts: effects of translation on the cohesive structure

Resumo: This paper presents the theoretical-methodological choices and the initial results concerning the observation of the incidence of reason clauses in Chemistry texts. Translated academic textbooks of the area are specially focused in this study. These textbooks are opposed to other types of texts such as papers from specialized journals and texts from science popularization magazines that focus specifically on Chemistry themes. From the results in Portuguese and the contrast between original and translated texts, some indications for the continuity of the study are given. Key words: causality, translation, chemistry.

São examinados textos de manuais acadêmicos de Química Geral traduzidos do inglês para o português. Esses textos são contrastados com outros tipos textuais, não traduzidos, tais como artigos de periódicos especializados e textos de revistas de popularização de temas de ciências que tratam de temas de Química. Dos resultados colhidos em português e do contraste entre originais e traduções, são levantados indicativos para a continuidade do estudo.
