Resumo: Ethnopharmacological relevance Casearia sylvestris Sw. is widely used in popular medicine to treat inflammatory disorders based on the folk use and some literature about efficacy. Aim of the study This study evaluates the anti-hyperalgesic activity of the hydroalcoholic crude extract of Casearia sylvestris (HCE-CS) in an endometriosis animal model. Methods and results Sixteen female Swiss mice of endometriosis (ENDO) group were randomized into two groups after the implantation and establishment of heterologous endometrium onto the peritoneum abdominal wall and treated with HCE-CS 30 mg/kg or vehicle via gastric tube. The sham group consisted of eight female Swiss mice. The Von Frey test's behavioral evaluation to evaluate the levels of response to the mechanical nociceptive stimulus was performed before the surgery, before the treatment, and 30 min, 1h, 2h, and 3h after the administration of the extracts.A significant reduction of hyperalgesia was observed in the group treated with HCE-CS compared with the ENDO group without treatment, between 30 min and 3h after the administration of the extract. The highest response was observed in the 1h period after the administration of the medication. The anti-hyperalgesic effect was reproduced on the second day of treatment.ConclusionThe results of this study demonstrate the anti-hyperalgesic potential of HCE-CS, justifying interest in conducting other studies that evaluate the direct effect of this plant on endometriosis lesions and the mechanisms involved in the relief of pain.
