Resumo: The Statistics' theoretical and operational aspects are frequently emphasized by the teacher, dissociating the proposed activities from the students' daily problems. However, that makes it challenging to explore the development of statistical literacy, reasoning, and thinking skills related to the teaching of this subject. Along with this questioning, this article aims to discuss the development of one of these skills, the statistical literacy, in students from an undergraduate technological course, through a Mathematical Modelling project. Discursive Textual Analysis procedures were used to organize, interpret, analyze, and theorize the collected data. Mathematical Modelling, as a pedagogical strategy, was essential for the development of literacy when starting with themes that are important to students; it gave support to a critical reading of reality through several inquiries and investigations. On the path outlined to achieve this goal, the connection with the purposes of statistical literacy that occurs when we find meaning in statistical information in different contexts becomes clear. Therefore, it is located in the way that the reader places his reflections, analyzes, and looks at the data as a way to know and decipher the research context, and so, being both situations in perfect harmony.
