Resumo: The present academic work aims to explain the professional football player work contract approaching a very polemic topic, which is the image rights of the professional athlete. For this study it was accomplished between the historic evolution and it’s atuality in reference of the professional athlete’s rights, bringing different visions of many authors, jurisprudence and also the famous Pelé Law that regulates nearly all legal order involving professional football players. The big objective of approaching this law is that nowadays the football players are much more valued than before the law. The current study will bring a much bigger perspective than the football that people are used to see, will show how and what is entitled to the football players in terms of salary and image rights and how the professional football players can plead their rights in justice, aswell as the latest judicial decisions involving, demonstrating some divergences about this topic.

Para esta abordagem realizou-se um paralelo entre a evolução histórica e a atualidade no que tange ao direito do atleta profissional, trazendo a visão de diversos autores, jurisprudências e também da famosa Lei Pelé, que regula quase todo o ordenamento jurídico relacionado ao atleta profissional de futebol. O objetivo de abordar esta lei é evidenciar que o atleta profissional, hoje em dia, é mais valorizado e independente em comparação ao período anterior à Lei Pelé.
