Resumo: The educational system, responsible for the greatest education of an individual, is not prepared to advance concomitantly with the technological changes that occur in society. It is necessary to search for new approaches for the capacitation of teachers. These approaches must be interesting, stimulating, and may lead to satisfactory results concerning the new technological view. In order to ease the difficulties found in the education of dental surgeons as well as to provide dental professionals with a model for a teaching, training and/or continuing education environment, with low cost and efficiently, a model was proposed for a virtual environment of teaching/learning through the web, being periodontology the branch studied. Such model is based on agent technology.

É necessário buscar novas abordagens para a capacitação de professores, que seja interessante, estimulante e que possa propiciar resultados satisfatórios dentro da nova visão tecnológica. Como forma de amenizar as dificuldades encontradas na formação do cirurgião-dentista, bem como disponibilizar aos profissionais da Odontologia um modelo para um ambiente de ensino, treinamento e/ou educação continuada, a baixo custo e de maneira eficiente, foi proposto um modelo para um ambiente virtual de ensino/aprendizagem via “web”, tendo como estudo de caso a Periodontia.
