Professional master courses and the dispute for social reproduction in the university environment

Resumo: | The following paper explores the role played by Professional Master Courses in Brazilian universities. These Courses can be considered as a new educational experience in the Brazilian academic field and they are presented here as holders of an innovative potential for the universities as a whole. Those new initiatives can renew the way the Brazilian academic field produces knowledge and also the manner that this knowledge interacts with the society as a whole. The paper analyzes this subject as a social conflict and reveals the way that market friendly practices in Brazilian universities are able to appropriate this novelty. The author argues that such market friendly practices must not be the only way to deal with Professional Master Courses and invites the reader to view them in terms of a social dispute for public education. |

O texto parte da consolidação dessas novas experiências de pós-graduação no País e de sua atual regulamentação para introduzir um debate sobre a potencialidade de inovação em todo o campo da educação universitária, inclusive junto ao debate teórico, que está contida nesses novos cursos. A partir dessa consideração, o artigo suscita uma reflexão sobre a relação existente entre o mercado e a universidade na direção de afirmar a necessidade de disputa por uma educação pública renovada que combata a naturalização de práticas que a transformam em mercadoria, como o autofinanciamento dos mestrados profissionais, presentes em diversas esferas do contexto universitário brasileiro contemporâneo.Este artículo debate la inserción de las maestrías profesionales en el medio universitario brasileño. El texto parte de la consolidación de esas nuevas experiencias de posgrado en el País y de su actual reglamentación para introducir un debate sobre la potencialidad de innovación en todo el campo de la educación universitaria, inclusive ante el debate teórico, que está contenida en esos nuevos cursos.
