Critical Communicative Competence in Distance Language Teaching: Reflections and Preliminary Proposals Based on the Idea of Gaps

Resumo: This paper provides an analysis of the instructional material of a Spanish language course, in the distance mode, in search of clues about its critical and emancipatory potential. The discussion is carried out in the light of the theoretical framework of Critical Pedagogy and the Communicative Approach, focusing on the possibilities of new pedagogical practices aimed at developing critical communicative competence. The methodological procedures adopted were bibliographical research, qualitative in nature, and analysis of the possibilities of interaction and development of critical thinking, based on the idea of gaps and problematization of contextualized situations that emerge from the materials and contents. The discussion highlights possibilities for the development of reflective, critical and emancipatory thinking, aiming to reduce asymmetries and overcome stereotyped views and relationships, in a context in which language is characterized as a key element to achieve respect for interculturality, the performance of student as a multilingual citizen. Este artigo apresenta uma análise do material instrucional de um curso de língua espanhola, na modalidade a distância, em busca de indícios sobre seu potencial crítico e emancipatório. A discussão é realizada à luz do arcabouço teórico da Pedagogia Crítica e da Abordagem Comunicativa, com foco nas possibilidades de novas práticas pedagógicas que visam ao desenvolvimento da competência comunicativa crítica.  Os procedimentos metodológicos adotados foram a pesquisa bibliográfica, de natureza qualitativa e análise das possiblidades de interação e desenvolvimento do senso crítico, a partir da ideia de brechas e problematizações das situações contextualizadas que emergem dos materiais e conteúdos. A discussão evidencia possiblidades do desenvolvimento do pensamento reflexivo, crítico e emancipatório, objetivando à diminuição de assimetrias e superação de visões e relações estereotipadas, em um contexto em que  língua se caracteriza como um elemento-chave para alcançar o respeito à interculturalidade e à atuação do estudante como cidadão plurilíngue.
