Silence and Evasion in Distance Education: an Experience in the Virtual Environment Schoology

Resumo: This article is the result of the experience of an online course ministered in the Virtual Learning Environment Schoology and aimed at students from one of the poles of the Distance Biology Sciences course, in order to analyze data related to virtual silence and evasion in distance education environments. After completing the course, electronic forms were sent to students (dropouts, evade and concluded) for data collection. The analysis of the collected data allowed us to conclude that, despite the effort of the course organizers in establishing a communication, many students remained silent, ending up evading. The concluded students positively evaluated the virtual Schoology environment, reinforcing its use in education. More research is needed on virtual silence and its impact on the evasion/dropout rates in distance courses.   Keywords: DE. Virtual learning environment. Evasion. Virtual silence.

Virtual silence.  O presente artigo é resultado da experiência de oferta de um curso online ministrado no Ambiente Virtual de Aprendizagem Schoology, e voltado para alunos de um dos polos do curso de Licenciatura em Ciências Biológicas a Distância, com o objetivo de analisar dados referentes ao silêncio virtual e evasão em ambientes de educação a distância. Após a realização do curso, foram enviados formulários eletrônicos aos alunos (desistentes, evadidos e concluintes) para a coleta de dados. A análise dos dados coletados permitiu concluir que, mesmo diante do esforço dos mediadores do curso em estabelecer uma comunicação, muitos alunos se mantiveram em silêncio, terminando por evadirem. Os alunos concluintes avaliaram positivamente o ambiente virtual Schoology, reforçando seu uso na educação. Faz-se necessário um maior número de pesquisas sobre o silêncio virtual e seu impacto sobre os índices de evasão/desistência nos cursos a distância.
