Resumo: Eating disorders are significant changes in eating behavior and have a multifactorial etiology. The most studied subtypes are anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa and binge eating disorder. It is extremely important to have early screening and possible intervention in risk groups, among which medical students are. The present study discusses the number of cases of eating disorders among medical students at Centro Universitário de João Pessoa, evaluating their particular eating behavior. This is a descriptive, cross-sectional, quantitative and field study. The study participants answered an electronic questionnaire of the “Google Forms” based on the adapted and validated portuguese version of the Eating Attitudes Test (EAT-26), composed of a block of questions for self-critical assessment regarding the proposed theme, respecting the aspects of Resolution No. 466 of December 12, 2012. The link comprised the purpose of the study and the Informed Consent Form (ICF). A quantitative analysis of the data and description of the sociodemographic data was carried out. The Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) software was used for statistical analysis with a significance level of P <0.05. The data collected were entered into an Excel 2016 spreadsheet. The population comprises 795 students, so the study sample was composed of 260 volunteers, of both genders and duly registered at the institution and the sample was non-probabilistic for convenience. Data collection and analysis started after approval by the Ethics Committee. CAAE: 40284820.3.0000.5176. The study sample was composed of 24.2% (n = 63) of students of the basic cycle, 37% (n = 96) of students of the clinical cycle and 38.8% (n = 101) of students of the boarding school. Most of the participants were female, aged between 18-24 years. It was found that a total of 95 students (46.1%) in the sample had altered eating behavior. 77.9% (n = 74) of these students are women and most are in the clinical cycle and boarding school. It is concluded that identifying the number of cases of changes in the eating pattern, among medical students, allows to analyze the self-criticism of the participants, in relation to their eating behavior, providing knowledge on this topic.
