Information mediation actions of the state system of public libraries of São Paulo (SISEB): potential scenario for the development of information literacy

The article deals with the dialogic relationship between Information Mediation and Information Literacy within the scope of public libraries for the development of community protagonism. It sought to answer how the Information Mediation actions “Reading Wheels, Storytelling and Lectures/Courses/Workshops” carried out by the libraries that are part of the State System of Public Libraries of São Paulo (SisEB) offer conditions for the development of Information Literacy and the protagonism of the subject? In order to fulfill the proposed objective, a qualitative research of a descriptive-exploratory nature was chosen, using the case study supported by bibliographic research and documental research. The universe of analysis permeated 194 libraries from the 3 Administrative Regions of the State of São Paulo with more SisEB libraries: São Paulo, Campinas and São José do Rio Preto, respectively. It was understood that Information Mediation actions, when articulated with knowledge and knowledge resulting from collective experience, develop Information Literacy when they integrate the subject in their relationship with and in the world from the critical, ethical and sensitive use of information for the development of its role.
