Resumo: The study aimed to analyze the words characterizing the career entry phase as perceived by beginning physical education (PE) teachers in Basic Education (BE) from a public education network in a country town from the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul (Brazil). This is qualitative case-study research, and its instrument was a questionnaire. The interpretation of the collected data was carried out through content analysis. Five novice PE teachers in BE from the above mentioned education network and city participated. We concluded that we identified a list of fourteen words that characterize the period they began teaching, that these oscillated between words characterized with positive and negative connotations, and that the negative words were in greater number than the positive ones. The words with negative connotations are possibly linked to the survival stage of career entry, and the words with positive connotations are possibly linked to the discovery stage.   Keywords: Physical Education. Characterization of the Moment.O estudo objetivou analisar as palavras caracterizadoras do momento do início da docência ou fase de entrada na carreira docente, nas percepções de professores de Educação Física (EF) iniciantes na Educação Básica (EB), de uma rede de ensino pública, de uma cidade do interior do estado do Rio Grande do Sul (Brasil). Caracterizamos a pesquisa como qualitativa do tipo estudo de caso. O instrumento de pesquisa foi um questionário. A interpretação das informações coletadas foi efetuada por meio da análise de conteúdo. Participaram cinco professores de EF iniciantes na EB das referidas redes de ensino e cidade. Concluímos que identificamos um rol de quatorze palavras caracterizadoras do momento do início da docência e que essas oscilaram entre palavras caracterizadas com conotações positivas e negativas e que as negativas foram em maior número que as positivas. As palavras com conotações negativas possivelmente estão ligadas ao estágio de sobrevivência da entrada na carreira e as palavras com conotações positivas possivelmente estão ligadas ao estágio de descoberta.
