An analysis of daycare principal’s perceptions about nursery quality improvements

Resumo: This study aims to analyze the perceptions of a group of daycare principals about nursery quality improvements. A qualitative questionnaire was conducted for data collection. The results showed that the principals consider several issues to improve the quality of nurseries. Among them are improvements in school infrastructure, in teachers and principals’ education, in the principal’s work, towards a closer rapport between family and daycare centers, and in educational authorities’ actions. A matter of concern is the fact that these professionals do not recognize improvements in a social space as a condition for improving the quality of nurseries. This finding constitutes a relevant part of this study, as it places the daycare center as the only one responsible for the babies’ and children’s education and development. The data from this study can be used in the context of preservice and further/continuing education. Keywords: Day care center. Education. Nursery. Principals. Quality

QualityEste estudo tem o objetivo de analisar as percepções de um grupo de diretoras de creches sobre a melhoria da qualidade do berçário. Para coleta de dados foi elaborado um questionário qualitativo. Os resultados mostraram que as diretoras consideram várias questões para melhoria da qualidade dos berçários. Entre elas, a melhoria da infraestrutura, da formação de professores e de diretores, da mediação do diretor, na aproximação entre família e creche, nas ações das autoridades educacionais. Uma questão preocupante trata-se do fato de que as profissionais não reconhecem a melhoria do espaço social como condição para a melhoria da qualidade do berçário. Esse achado se constitui em uma parte relevante desta pesquisa, pois situa a creche como única responsável pela formação e pelo desenvolvimento de bebês e crianças.
