Teaching by Research as a teaching strategy for the promotion of scientific culture : studying medicinal plants

Resumo: Science education can be carried out through theoretical/practical pedagogical activities in the school environment. The present study aimed to explore the universe of plants through bibliographic research and interviews, investigating the forms of use and the importance of plants for the local population. The development of this study was carried out in Biology classes of the 2nd year, in a state school in the years 2018, 2019 and 2021. We consider that the students effectively participated in all stages of development of the activities. According to the results obtained, we affirm that teaching by investigation identified the different knowledge arising from popular culture, aroused interest in research, and contributed to expanding scientific knowledge based on popular knowledge present in the students’ daily lives.

O presente estudo teve como objetivo explorar o universo das plantas por meio de pesquisa bibliográfica e entrevistas, investigando as formas de uso e a importância dos vegetais para a população local. O desenvolvimento desse estudo foi realizado nas aulas de Biologia do 2° ano, numa escola da rede estadual nos anos de 2018, 2019 e 2021. Consideramos que os estudantes participaram efetivamente de todas as etapas de desenvolvimento das atividades.
