Resumo: | Three tropical legumes Centrossema pubescens, Pueraria javanica and Phaseolus atropurpureus were compared with alfalfa (Medicago sativa) in rations for growing pigs. Four treatments, with four replications per treatment and two animals per replication, were studied in a complete randomized block design. The experiment lasted for 70 days. Each treatment had one of the four legume hays as one of its components. The hay composed 5.0, 7.5 and 10.0% of the rations for pigs of 20-40, 40-60 kg liveweight, respectively. The respective crude protein content of the rations were 18, 16 and 14% for pigs of the three weight groups. No significant differences were found among treatment for liveweight gain, feed intake or feed conversion. |

No significant differences were found among treatment for liveweight gain, feed intake or feed conversion.Estudou-se o valor da substituição do feno de alfafa (Medicago sativo), na alimentação de suínos em crescimento pelos de jitirana (Centrosema pubescens), de kudzu tropical (Pueraria javanica) e de siratro (Phaseolus atropurpureus). Foram experimentados quatro tratamentos, cada um consistindo no emprego do feno de uma das quatro leguminosas mencionadas. Em todos os tratamentos, de acordo com o aumento do peso vivo dos leitões, variaram as percentagens de proteína bruta e de feno das rações; assim, para leitões de 20 a 40 kg, o teor de proteína bruta era de 18%, e o de feno, 5%; para os de 40 a 60 kg, 16% de proteína bruta e 7,5 de feno; e para os de mais de 60 kg, 14% de proteína bruta e 10,0% de feno. O experimento teve duração de 70 dias.
