The mathematical training of future pedagogues in a distance-learning program

Resumo: This paper discusses findings of a study that sought to understand how future pedagogues were trained in mathematics teaching by a distance-learning program. Data were collected by means of an online questionnaire and semi-structured interviews, and were organized and analyzed by means of content analysis. The results indicate that participants face difficulties regarding mathematical contents, although they feel methodologically prepared. In addition, microaggressions experienced by the future pedagogues over their school life negatively affected their relationship with mathematics. The results also indicate difficulties arising from the nature of the program (i.e., distance learning), mainly due to a need for the presence of a teacher and to a feeling of loneliness.

Los datos fueron producidos a partir de un cuestionario online y entrevistas semiestructuradas, organizadas y analizadas por análisis de contenido. Los resultados indican que los participantes tienen dificultades con el contenido de las matemáticas, aunque se sientan preparados metodológicamente. Además de eso, experiencias de microagresiones a lo largo de la trayectoria escolar influenciaron negativamente la relación de los futuros pedagogos y pedagogas con las matemáticas. Los resultados indican dificultades en la formación relacionada a la característica del curso, principalmente por una necesidad de la presencia del profesor y por un sentimiento de soledad.Cet article concerne les résultats d’une recherche visant à comprendre comment s’est déroulée la formation mathématique de futurs pédagogues d’un cours à distance. Les données ont été recueillies à partir d’un questionnaire en ligne et d’entretiens semi-structurés, organisées et soumises à l’analyse de contenu. Les résultats indiquent que les participants rencontrent des difficultés avec le contenu mathématiques, même s’ils se sentent préparés d’un point de vue méthodologique. En outre, des expériences de micro- -agressions tout au long de leur parcours scolaire sembleraient avoir influencé de manière négative les rapports que les futurs pédagogues entretiennent avec les mathématiques. Les résultats indiquent des difficultés de formation qui sont caractéristiques de cette modalité de cours et qui concernent notamment un besoin de la présence physique de l’enseignant et un sentiment de solitude.Este artigo discute resultados de uma pesquisa que buscou compreender como ocorreu a formação matemática de futuros pedagogos e pedagogas de um curso na modalidade a distância. Os dados foram produzidos com base em um questionário on-line e entrevistas semiestruturadas e organizados e analisados por análise de conteúdo. Os resultados indicam que os participantes têm dificuldades com o conteúdo matemático, embora se sintam preparados metodologicamente. Além disso, experiências de microagressões ao longo da trajetória escolar influenciaram negativamente a relação dos futuros pedagogos e pedagogas com a matemática.
