Resumo: The purpose of this paper is to analyse some relationships between freedom and school knowledge from historical-critical pedagogic theory, which is based on the Marxist view of history, society, the human being and knowledge. Freedom does not exist in nature, having appeared through specifically human activity, that is, through work. Social history has increased the possibilities of free action and, simultaneously, obstacles to the achievement of these possibilities. School education reflects, in its content and form, that contradictory character of the human struggle for freedom.

La propuesta de este artículo es discutir algunas relaciones entre la libertad y el conocimiento escolar desde la perspectiva de la pedagogía histórico-crítica, que se fundamenta en las concepciones marxistas de historia, sociedad, ser humano y conocimiento. La libertad inexiste en la naturaleza y surgió a través de la actividad específicamente humana, es decir, el trabajo. La historia social ha producido el incremento de las posibilidades de acción libre y, concomitantemente, los obstáculos a la concreción de tales posibilidades. La educación escolar refleja, en sus contenidos y formas, este carácter contradictorio de la lucha humana por la libertad.  Le propos de cet article est discuter certains rapports entre la liberté et la connaissance scolaire sous la perspective historico-critique appuyée sur les conceptions marxistes de l’histoire, de la société, de l’être humain et de la connaissance. La liberté n’existe pas dans la nature. Elle a été engendrée par l’activité spécifiquement humaine, c’est-à-dire, le travail. L’histoire sociale a produit l’augmentation des possibilités d’action libre et, en même temps, des obstacles à la concrétisation de ces possibilités. L’éducation scolaire reproduit, à travers ses contenus et ses formes, ce caractère contradictoire de la lutte humaine pour la liberté. A proposta deste artigo é discutir algumas relações entre a liberdade e o conhecimento escolar na perspectiva da pedagogia histórico-crítica, que se fundamenta nas concepções marxistas de história, sociedade, ser humano e conhecimento. A liberdade inexiste na natureza, tendo surgido pela atividade especificamente humana, ou seja, o trabalho. A história social tem produzido o incremento das possibilidades de ação livre e, concomitantemente, os obstáculos à concretização dessas possibilidades.
