Historical competences and european/national narratives in textbooks

Resumo: The objective of this paper is to analyze the changes and survivals in the proposal of national/European historical narrative and competences in the textbooks of Secondary Education. For this, six books of two different Spanish laws have been chosen, and a specific content: the Early Modern Age. A mixed research approach has been used, combining quantitative and qualitative techniques. The sample consists in a total of 1300 activities. The results indicate that the textbooks have improved in the type of activities and in the cognitive level required, but continue to dominate the contents of concepts, facts and concrete data. On the other hand, there is a change in the proposed narrative, in which knowledge of a cultural and artistic nature clearly dominates, and in which the main lines of the national narrative have been framed in a mainly European context.

Para ello se han escogido seis libros de dos leyes españolas diferentes y un contenido concreto: la Edad Moderna. Se ha utilizado un enfoque de investigación mixto, combinando técnicas cuantitativas y cualitativas. La muestra la compone un total de 1300 actividades. Los resultados indican que los manuales han mejorado en tipología de actividades y en el nivel cognitivo exigido, pero siguen dominando los contenidos de conceptos, hechos y datos concretos. Por otro lado, se vislumbra un cambio en la narrativa propuesta, en la que dominan claramente conocimientos de tipo cultural y artísticos, y en el que las líneas maestras de la narrativa nacional han quedado enmarcadas en un contexto principalmente europeo.Cet article se propose d’analyser les changements et la persistance des discours concernant les compétences historiques et les récits nationaux/européens dans les manuels scolaires de  l’enseignement secondaire. Pour cela, nous avons sélectionné six livres relatifs à un contenu concret: l’âge moderne et à deux differentes lois espagnoles. Nous avons opté pour une méthode mixte de recherche, combinant des techniques quantitatives et qualitatives. L’échantillon comprend un total de 1300 activités. Les résultats indiquent que les manuels se sont améliorés quant à la typologie des activités et le niveau cognitif requis, mais restent encombrés par des concepts, des faits et des données concrets. De plus, il semble y avoir un changement du récit conseillé dans lequel prédominent visiblement des connaissances de type culturel et artistique et où les lignes directrices du récit national s’inscrivent principalement dans un contexte européen.O objetivo deste artigo é analisar as mudanças e persistências na proposta de competências históricas e narrativas nacionais/europeias nos livros de texto do Ensino Secundário. Assim, foram selecionados seis livros de duas leis espanholas diferentes e um conteúdo concreto: a Idade Moderna. Utilizou-se uma abordagem mista de pesquisa, combinando técnicas quantitativas e qualitativas. A mostra é composta por um total de 1300 atividades. Os resultados indicam que os manuais melhoraram na tipologia de atividades e no nível cognitivo exigido, porém continuam dominando os conteúdos de conceitos, fatos e dados concretos.
