Lagoa Santa Public Library and the 2030 Agenda: the Sala Braille Project as an inclusion initiative

In the context of the 2030 Agenda, libraries and librarians can do a lot to contribute to the social development of nations by carrying out projects aimed at breaking down barriers to accessing information. In these actions, the service to people inserted in contexts of social vulnerability or who have some type of special need, such as visually impaired individuals, stands out. This article addresses this context, when presenting the Sala Braille Project of the Public Library of Lagoa Santa, State of Minas Gerais. The referred Project is managed with the purpose of assisting the visually impaired people of this municipality, with a view to rescuing / inserting these people into social life. In addition to a brief theoretical framework on accessibility in libraries, the study reports the context of creation, the intended purposes, the resources spent and the activities carried out with the aforementioned Project. The results achieved with the Project reinforce that the library has been adapting to the theme of social inclusion, in order to guarantee the sustainable development of nations. It was concluded about the Project's viability, mainly, the role of the librarian, in this process, in an attempt to serve this part of the population, in order to guarantee the democratization of access to information for all.
