Organizational citizenship behaviors: a glimpse in the light of values and job satisfaction

Resumo: Purpose – The main goal of this study is to analyze the influenceof work related values and work satisfaction on the OrganizationalCitizenship Behaviors (OCB), according to the perspective of theemployees of a company from the education sector.Design/methodology/approach – A survey was carried out with 244employees of a company located in the state of Rio Grande do Sul,Brazil. The company covers publishers, elementary school and highschool levels, and preparative courses for Vestibular (university entranceexam) and Concursos Públicos (exams to be admitted to the civil service),and they are acting in the education sector since 2001.Findings – The main results reveal that the work related values and worksatisfaction positively influence the OCB, and the main values withhigher influence on OCB are Conformity, Universalism, Benevolence,and the Satisfaction with the boss, which are the independent variableswith higher influence. The only value researched that has no influenceon the OCB was Power.Originality/value – The results will enable a reflection on the reasonsthat make these individuals work, their satisfaction with the workdone and its influence on the organizational citizenship behaviors.Additionally, they may provide subsidies for the education sector,to assess the prospect of their professionals regarding their concerns,interactions and behaviors in the workplace.

A empresa possui escolas de educação infantil,fundamental e médio, editora e cursos preparatórios para vestibularese concursos, atuando no setor educacional desde 2001.Resultados - Os principais resultados revelaram que os valores relativosao trabalho e a satisfação no trabalho influenciam positivamente osCCO, sendo os valores Conformidade, Universalismo e Benevolência ea Satisfação com a chefia as variáveis independentes de maior influência.Destaca-se que a única variável independente pesquisada que nãoexerceu influência sobre os CCO foi o valor Poder.Contribuições - Os resultados encontrados irão possibilitar umareflexão acerca dos motivos que levam esses indivíduos a trabalhar, suasatisfação com o trabalho realizado e sua influência nos comportamentosde cidadania organizacional.
