Resumo: Legumes of Cajanus genus are mainly known for Cajanus cajan specie, known as “guandu beans” and pigeonpea, originated from Asia was brought to Africa and the Americas. It is cultivated in all tropical and semi-tropical regions in the world and used as a soil phytoremediation plant, renewal of degraded pastures, animal and human consumption, in addition to pharmacological uses. The main biological active substances include alkaloids, flavonoids, reducing sugars, anthraquinones, tannins, phenols, triterpenoids, proteins and carbohydrates. Flavonoids appear to be largely responsible for pharmacological properties, however, other compounds, such as protease inhibitors, as well as biological activities have been studied. Guandu beans is widely used by traditional medicine to treat different types of conditions, especially diabetes, parasitic and other types of infections.

Centro de Inovação em Biodiversidade e Saúde - Farmanguinhos/Fiocruz2022-06-30info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionapplication/pdftext/htmltext/xmlhttps://revistafitos.far.fiocruz.br/index.php/revista-fitos/article/view/84710.32712/2446-4775.2022.847Revista Fitos; Vol. 16 No. 2 (2022); 215-230Revista Fitos; Vol. 16 Núm. 2 (2022); 215-230Revista Fitos; v. 16 n. 2 (2022); 215-2302446-47751808-9569reponame:Revista Fitosinstname:Fundação Oswaldo Cruz (FIOCRUZ)instacron:FIOCRUZporhttps://revistafitos.far.fiocruz.br/index.php/revista-fitos/article/view/847/1031https://revistafitos.far.fiocruz.br/index.php/revista-fitos/article/view/847/1032https://revistafitos.far.fiocruz.br/index.php/revista-fitos/article/view/847/1086Copyright (c) 2022 Revista Fitosinfo:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessSilva-López, Raquel ElisaTeixeira, Erika Maria Gomes Ferreira2022-07-15T12:19:03Zoai:ojs.revistafitos.far.fiocruz.br:article/847Revistahttps://revistafitos.far.fiocruz.br/index.php/revista-fitos/PUBhttp://revistafitos.far.fiocruz.br/index.php/revista-fitos/oairevistafitos@far.fiocruz.br || eugenio.telles@far.fiocruz.br2446-47752446-4775opendoar:2022-07-15T12:19:03Revista Fitos - Fundação Oswaldo Cruz (FIOCRUZ)false
