Resumo: Objective: to evaluate the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the mental health of university students at Rovuma University, in Mozambique. Methods: this is a cross-sectional qualitative-epistemological study, using a semistructured interview, answered in 2021 by six students from the Rovuma University-Mozambique, enrolled in different courses. The interviews were conducted at the university and took an average of 55 minutes. Results: the COVID-19 pandemic has seriously affected the mental health of university students. The cancellation of face-to-face activities imposed by the pandemic impacted the routine of students because of the sudden change and distance from colleagues and teachers. The fear of contamination, uncertainty about the end of the pandemic and the return of classes and prolonged social distancing were part of the mental health risks. With the resumption of classes in the remote modality, many students went through other experiences and difficulties in accessing the platform because many of them did not have the means (computer, tablet or mobile phone) and quality internet or because they lacked knowledge of information technologies and communication. Conclusion: in this period of the COVID-19 pandemic, many students went through experiences of stress, anxiety, and fear of contamination by the disease. There are no psychological care and support services within the university to respond to the demands of the pandemic and other situations that impact the mental health of the university community. It is therefore suggested that universities promote psychological and social support services to the academic community.

Fundação Oswaldo Cruz Brasília2022-06-30info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionapplication/pdfhttps://www.cadernos.prodisa.fiocruz.br/index.php/cadernos/article/view/86910.17566/ciads.v11i2.869Iberoamerican Journal of Health Law; Vol. 11 No. 2 (2022): (APR./JUN. 2022); 88-102Cuadernos Iberoamericanos de Derecho Sanitario; Vol. 11 Núm. 2 (2022): (APR./JUN. 2022); 88-102Cadernos Ibero-Americanos de Direito Sanitário; v. 11 n. 2 (2022): (ABR./JUN. 2022); 88-1022358-18242317-839610.17566/ciads.v11i2reponame:Cadernos Ibero-Americanos de Direito Sanitário (Online)instname:Fundação Oswaldo Cruz (FIOCRUZ)instacron:FIOCRUZporhttps://www.cadernos.prodisa.fiocruz.br/index.php/cadernos/article/view/869/896https://www.cadernos.prodisa.fiocruz.br/index.php/cadernos/article/view/869/994Copyright (c) 2022 Rosário Martinho Sunde, Sónia Giquira, Manuel Marcos Aussene (Autor)https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessSunde, Rosário MartinhoGiquira, SóniaSunde, Rosário MartinhoGiquira, SóniaSunde, Rosário MartinhoGiquira, SóniaAussene, Manuel Marcos 2023-06-19T18:42:53Zoai:ojs.cadernos.prodisa.fiocruz.br:article/869Revistahttp://www.cadernos.prodisa.fiocruz.brPUBhttp://www.cadernos.prodisa.fiocruz.br/index.php/cadernos/oaicadernos.direitosanitario@fiocruz.br2358-18242317-8396opendoar:2023-06-19T18:42:53Cadernos Ibero-Americanos de Direito Sanitário (Online) - Fundação Oswaldo Cruz (FIOCRUZ)false
