Resumo: | OBJECTIVE: To assess the prevalence of symptoms of stress, depression and anxiety and associated factors as a result of the new Coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19) in university students enrolled in public and private institutions in the city of Montes Claros, Minas Gerais.METHODS: Cross-sectional research with a sample of university students. Instruments addressing sociodemographic data, behavioral habits, clinical conditions, fear scale for COVID-19 and the Stress, Anxiety and Depression Scale (DASS-21) were used. The association between the studied variables and stress, anxiety and depression and health anxiety were verified by bivariate analysis followed by Poisson regression, with robust variance.RESULTS: The prevalence of stress, anxiety and depression during the period of social isolation in the studied population was 48.3%, 38.4% and 46%, respectively, in 857 university students. Among the university students, being female, being linked to a public institution, having lost income during the period of social isolation, having an altered BMI, not practicing physical activity during social isolation, and having the heart racing when thinking about contaminating by COVID-19, remained associated with stress, anxiety and depression anxiety.CONCLUSIONS: The prevalence of stress, depression and anxiety in university students enrolled in public and private institutions in Montes Claros, Minas Gerais, during the new coronavirus pandemic is high. |
