AN ANALYSIS OF ACADEMIC PRODUCTIONS OF INFORMATION SCIENCE ON THE USE OF AUDIODESCRIPTION FOR THE VISUALLY IMPAIRED

Audiodescription is an assistive technology that helps to minimize communicational barriers with the visually impaired public, by means of audiovisual translation, which transforms visual signs into verbal ones, promoting social inclusion and accessibility of these individuals to society.  It is thus important to consider how Information Science professionals are developing studies and actions on the subject of audiodescription as a form of social inclusion and accessibility for the visually impaired in their academic productions. The defined general objective was to analyze, through the Journals of the National Meeting of Information Science, the scientific production of Information Science related to audiodescription and its possibility of promoting social inclusion and accessibility for people with visual impairment, as subjects of information. Methodology was based on a qualitative and descriptive research.  Data collection technique was through the survey of scientific production in Information Science in the Journals of the National Meeting of Information Science, in the years 2003, 2008, 2013 and 2018, by means of non-random sampling through judgment, using bibliographic procedures as method for analyzing the collected data. The conclusion reached is that there is a deficit in the production of literature in Information Sciences in relation to the research and use of the audiodescription resource in the information units, despite the expressive development of actions and of the legislation on social inclusion and accessibility for the visually impaired in Brazil.
