Teachers' understandings of early years about human sexuality in the context of scientific literacy

Resumo: About the thematic of “Teacher Training Processes”, this text presents a summary of a Master's research, carried out in 2018, which investigated human sexuality in the perspective of scientific literacy, with teachers from the early years of Elementary School (“Ensino Fundamental”, in Brazilian educational system). The aim in this section is to analyze the understandings of teachers of the early years, concerning the theme of human sexuality in the context of scientific literacy. The research occurred in a Elementary School in the city of Belém–PA and counted on the participation of four teachers: multipurpose, effective, licensed as teachers and working in classes from 1st to 5th years. The empirical material was produced through a questionnaire, pedagogical meetings, daily interactions and semi-structured interviews. In the analysis of the understandings of the teachers, Discursive Textual Analysis (DTA) was used (MORAES; GALIAZZI, 2016). As a result of the analysis, it was evidenced school thoughts and practices, related to human sexuality contents, with traditional outlines, out-of-context of social and cultural aspects, and which they are still based on biological standards, without focusing on sexual diversity and its consequences in social relations, also without being related to real effective situations of scientific literacy; it is caused by little knowledge or incipient ways of this approach in class, still a practice under construction. This study shows to the importance of understanding human sexuality in all dimensions (biological, social, emotional, cultural and religious) and scientific literacy as a new concept of great importance, and that needs to be linked to the social practices of students in the early years of Elementary School.

O objetivo neste recorte é analisar as compreensões de professoras dos anos iniciais a respeito da temática sexualidade humana no contexto do letramento científico. A pesquisa ocorreu em uma Escola de Ensino Fundamental da cidade de Belém-PA e contou com a participação de quatro docentes: polivalentes, efetivas, licenciadas como docentes e que atuam em turmas de 1º ao 5º ano. O material empírico foi produzido por meio de questionário, encontros pedagógicos, interações cotidianas e entrevista semiestruturada. Na análise das compreensões docentes foi empregada a Análise Textual Discursiva (ATD) (MORAES; GALIAZZI, 2016). Como resultados das análises, evidenciaram-se pensamentos e práticas escolares, relativos a conteúdos de sexualidade humana, de contornos tradicionais descontextualizados de aspectos sociais e culturais, e que se pautam ainda em padrões biológicos e sem enfoque à diversidade sexual e seus desdobramentos nas relações sociais, havendo ausência de situações reais efetivas de letramento científico, provocado pelo pouco conhecimento ou modos incipientes dessa abordagem em aula, sendo ainda uma prática em construção.
