The importance of quota policy and the challenges of permanence of quota students in the view of young students of the IFFluminense campus Itaperuna

Resumo: As a result of a research carried out with young students of the Integrated Technical Courses of Itaperuna campus at the Instituto Federal Fluminense, this article discussed the importance of quotas in teaching, and raised questions regarding the challenges that Law nº 12.711/12 posed to the permanence of quota students in the respective institution. Based on 22 interviews, the survey found, first, that a good part of the interviewees had a positive perception of the quota law, seen as an important policy of inclusion and historical reparation. Second, we observed that many of the participants understand that only guaranteeing access with quotas is not enough, as it is also necessary to create effective conditions to ensure the permanence of these students. Finally, among the challenges pointed out to permanence, racism stood out, something that is present in everyday school life and that negatively affects the life of black students, especially quota students, due to the disadvantages arising from racial inequality in the country and the condition of socioeconomic vulnerability.

A partir de 22 entrevistas, la encuesta encontró, en primer lugar, que buena parte de los entrevistados tenía una percepción positiva de la ley de cuotas, vista como una importante política de inclusión y reparación histórica. En segundo lugar, observó que muchos de los participantes entienden que solo garantizar el acceso con cuotas no es suficiente, sino que también es necesario crear condiciones efectivas para asegurar la permanencia de estos estudiantes. Finalmente, entre los desafíos señalados a la permanencia, se destacó el racismo, algo que está presente en el cotidiano escolar y que incide negativamente en la vida de los estudiantes negros, en especial de los estudiantes de cuota, debido a las desventajas derivadas de la desigualdad racial en el país y la condición de vulnerabilidad socioeconómica.Fruto de uma pesquisa realizada com jovens estudantes dos Cursos Técnicos Integrados do Campus Itaperuna no Instituto Federal Fluminense, o presente artigo debateu a importância das cotas no ensino e levantou questões atinentes aos desafios que a Lei nº 12.711/12 colocou à permanência dos alunos cotistas na respectiva instituição. Baseada em 22 entrevistas, a pesquisa constatou, primeiramente, que boa parte dos entrevistados tinha uma percepção positiva a respeito da lei de cotas, vista como uma importante política de inclusão e reparação histórica. Em segundo lugar, observou que muitos dos participantes compreendem que apenas garantir o acesso com as cotas não é suficiente, sendo também necessário criar condições efetivas para assegurar a permanência desses alunos.
