Resumo: This article examines the role of philosophy, theories of education and knowledge in the construction of society and in the formation of the individual. This study aims to elucidate the ideals of education and formation of man through historical and philosophical aspects. The theoretical conceptions of some classical thinkers, from ancient Greece, through Alexandria, to modernity, are presented and current tendencies and perspectives on education and society are highlighted. As Education is a discipline involving objectives, philosophy can demonstrate its importance, and contribute to the reflection on the type of appropriate formation.

Este estudio objetiva dilucidar los ideales de educación y formación del hombre a través de un aspecto histórico y filosófico. Se presentarán las concepciones teóricas de algunos pensadores clásicos, desde la antigua Grecia, a través de Alejandría, hasta la modernidad, y, finalmente, se destacarán las tendencias y perspectivas actuales sobre la educación y la sociedad. La educación está objetivada, y en este sentido la filosofía demuestra su importancia, colaborando en la reflexión sobre el tipo de formación adecuada.Este artigo busca compreender o papel da filosofia, das teorias da educação e do conhecimento na construção da sociedade e na formação do indivíduo. O objetivo deste estudo é elucidar os ideais de educação e formação do homem através de um viés histórico e filosófico. Serão apresentadas as concepções teóricas de alguns pensadores clássicos desde a Grécia Antiga, passando por Alexandria, pela modernidade, e, por fim, serão salientadas as tendências atuais e as perspectivas sobre educação e sociedade.
