Resumo: | The right to education in Brazil has elicited social interest, while it has been a field of interest for academic studies and government institutions that assess public policies. This article aims to present research results on the potential and effective audience of the Youth and Adult Education (EJA), as an educational right guaranteed in the Brazilian Federal Constitution from 1988. As a methodological procedure, a quantitative study was carried out on databases, educational indicators and demographic information produced by state agencies. The study revealed that the irregular school trajectory is related to the migration of students to EJA, characterizing its overlapping with regular education, which points to the need to adopt specific policies to address deficiencies in academic trajectory and in the service offered to EJA’s potential audience. |

O direito à educação no Brasil tem sido objeto de interesse social e se constituiu campo de estudos acadêmicos e de instituições governamentais que avaliam políticas públicas. O objetivo deste artigo é apresentar resultados de pesquisa sobre o público potencial e atendido pela educação de jovens e adultos (EJA), como direito educacional contemplado na Constituição Federal de 1988. Como procedimento metodológico, realizamos um estudo quantitativo sobre bases de dados, indicadores educacionais e informações demográficas produzidas por órgãos de Estado. O estudo revelou que o fenômeno da trajetória escolar irregular tem relação com a migração de alunos para a EJA, caracterizando sua imbricação com o ensino regular, o que aponta para a necessidade de adoção de políticas específicas para o enfrentamento das deficiências de trajetória acadêmica e o atendimento do público potencial da EJA.El derecho a la educación en Brasil ha sido objeto de interés social y se ha convertido en un campo de estudios académicos y de instituciones gubernamentales que evalúan políticas públicas. El objetivo de esteartículo es presentar los resultados de una investigación sobre el público potencial y atendido por la educación de personas jóvenes y adultas (EPJA), como derecho educativo contemplado en la Constitución Federal de 1988. Como procedimiento metodológico, realizamos un estudio cuantitativo sobre bases de datos, indicadores educativos e informaciones demográficas producidas por organismos estatales.
