Elements of the interdisciplinary foundation of the Sociology of Law

The inherent interdisciplinarity of the Sociology of Law field of study does not seem to be well accepted externally, and even by some of its scholars, internally. There seems to be academic pressure for Sociology of Law researchers to assume disciplinary roles. In this small essay, we sought to list and explore arguments exposed by some authors, associating them with other knowledge and positions. For this, we use as a backdrop an attempt to understand the Sociology of Law, its trajectory, its choices, its dilemmas, and the criticisms that fall on the area. It can be seen throughout the text that the Sociology of Law has changed from a field in which social scientists had the same weight as jurists to another in which jurists predominated, until, in recent decades, it has once again seen a field better distributed in relation to the background of researchers. It is also seen that the literature points out that the Sociology of Law, as a field of academic studies and research, has become increasingly interdisciplinary and eclectic in terms of research methodologies. The essay concludes with the wish that the field of Sociology of Law remains open, so that it adds more and more and can dialogue better and more widely, making real interdisciplinarity grow.
