Resumo: The main objective of this research was to analyse the collection ofthe Brazilian History -for 5th and 6th grades - hold by schoollibraries. It focuson the presence of the negro in these collections, making use of the psycholinguistic analysis, which describes the meaning of verbs in either aspects denotative and connotative among the categories: social, cognitive,affective and physical. The research also suggest ways to select children's books, supplying teachers and librarians with data to develop the book collection o school library.

O foco da análise foi a presença do negro na referida coleção. Para tanto foi utilizada a análise psicolinguística a qual busca descrever o sentido dos verbos nos aspectosdenotativo e conotativo nas categorias: social, cognitivo, afetivo e flsica .
