Portuguese for refugees: combining pragmatics and discourse analysis

Resumo: This paper aims to exemplify the importance of joining two areas, namely Pragmatics and Discourse Analysis, for dealing with the challenges of the brand-new area of study on teaching Brazilian Portuguese as a foreign language to refugees in Brazil. In this context, it seems appropriate to consider the demands and goals of this population when learning Portuguese as a foreign language. The analyses were based on two posters, which were published by the media as part of the materials used to report on the popular protests against the football World Cup held in Brazil in 2014.

The analyses were based on two posters, which were published by the media as part of the materials used to report on the popular protests against the football World Cup held in Brazil in 2014.O presente artigo busca salientar a importância das perspectivas da pragmática e da análise do discurso para o atendimento a uma demanda concreta originada de uma área ainda carente de estudos e pesquisas, que necessita de maior visibilidade nos contextos acadêmicos e de formação de professores, o português para refugiados (PR). Nesse contexto, faz-se uma discussão sobre as demandas e finalidades da relação que os refugiados estabelecem com a aprendizagem de português como língua não materna. Para ilustrar essa demanda foram analisados dois materiais linguístico-discursivos veiculados em suportes midiáticos no Brasil como parte das iniciativas de protesto à realização da Copa do Mundo de Futebol no Brasil.
