Resumo: This study aimed at verifying to what extent how much students read in Portuguese (L1) and English (L2) and how much they affirm to enjoy reading correlate to their use of metacognitive reading strategies. To this end, 114 adolescents completed two questionnaires, which addressed, in addition to other factors, the amount and enjoyment for reading. Plus, participants completed the Metacognitive Awareness of Reading Strategy Inventory (MARSI) (MOKHTARI; REICHARD, 2002), in order to capture data on how much they use reading strategies. The correlation analysis performed showed, among other results, that the more students enjoy reading, the more they tend to use reading strategies. Furthermore, there were more positive correlations between the use of strategies and the amount of reading in the L2 than how much students read in the L1. Psycholinguistic and pedagogical implications of these findings are discussed.

Editora da PUCRS - ediPUCRS2023-12-05info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionapplication/pdfhttps://revistaseletronicas.pucrs.br/ojs/index.php/letronica/article/view/4440810.15448/1984-4301.2023.1.44408Letrônica; Vol. 16 No. 1 (2023): Single Volume ; e44408Letrônica; v. 16 n. 1 (2023): Volume Único ; e444081984-430110.15448/1984-4301.2023.1reponame:letrônicainstname:Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio Grande do Sul (PUCRS)instacron:PUC_RSporhttps://revistaseletronicas.pucrs.br/ojs/index.php/letronica/article/view/44408/28289Copyright (c) 2023 Letrônicahttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessCasagrande Rosso, AlineArêas da Luz Fontes, Ana Beatriz2024-01-18T14:11:54Zoai:ojs.revistaseletronicas.pucrs.br:article/44408Revistahttps://revistaseletronicas.pucrs.br/ojs/index.php/letronicaPRIhttps://revistaseletronicas.pucrs.br/ojs/index.php/letronica/oailetronica@pucrs.br||ivanetemileski@gmail.com1984-43011984-4301opendoar:2024-01-18T14:11:54letrônica - Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio Grande do Sul (PUCRS)false
