Between complying and learning: Experiences of rural youth in higher education during the pandemic

Resumo: | This article explores the rural youth condition during the Covid-19 pandemic, by recovering the voice and experiences of young students of the Sustainable Agricultural Innovation Engineering program at the Instituto Tecnológico Superior in the municipality of Cuquío, in Jalisco, México. The pandemic is presented as a phenomenon that accentuates the already existing inequalities in rural areas, making visible how young people have faced the challenges of sustaining education in a virtual way, challenging the deficiencies present in their families and communities. The students experience a decrease in their learning, however, they responded with their resources to the obligation to comply with school requirements despite the changing conditions, which is a sign that the rural youth condition is related to the circumstances experienced at a structural level from their intersubjective experiences in specific territories. |

Se plantea la pandemia como un fenómeno que acentúa las desigualdades ya existentes en los espacios rurales, visibilizando como las juventudes han enfrentado los desafíos de sostener la educación de manera virtual desafi ando las carencias presentes en sus familias y comunidades. Las y los estudiantes vivencian una disminución en sus aprendizajes, sin embargo, respondieron con sus recursos a la obligación de cumplir con las exigencias escolares a pesar de las condiciones cambiantes, lo cual es una muestra de que la condición juvenil rural está relacionada con las circunstancias que se viven a nivel estructural desde sus vivencias intersubjetivas en territorios específicos.Este artigo explora a condição da juventude rural durante a pandemia de Covid-19 recuperando a voz e as experiências de jovens estudantes de Engenharia de Inovação Agrícola Sustentável no Instituto Tecnológico Superior do município de Cuquío, em Jalisco, México. A pandemia é apresentada como um fenômeno que acentua as desigualdades já existentes nas áreas rurais, tornando visível como os jovens têm enfrentado os desafi os de sustentar a educação de forma virtual, desafiando as deficiências presentes em suas famílias e comunidades.
