The objective of this research aims at understanding how children of Middle school at the sixth grade in a public school learn English and how the use of play activities can help on the English teaching-learning process; specially analyzing the role of the play as a form of interaction. For that, four instruments of research are analyzed: the Lesson Planning, the description of the classes, Classes Notes and a questionnaire, made during the research project application. The study is done throughout the participative research, with an interpretative view, based on the action of an English teacher in a public school. This research is based on the following authors that study the teaching-learning process in English language for children as: Vygotski (1934), Dellova (2009), Shimoura (2005/2012), Miranda (2003) among others, and to discuss questions about the Foreign Language teaching, Celani (1997), Moita Lopes (2003), Telles (2002), Cristovão e Gamero (2009), among others. The results of the research reveal that children can learn English through the interaction that happens during the act of playing and also revealed that the play can help on the child development and on the English language learning
