The objective of this research was to investigate what aspects contribute to affective teaching and learning of English in the public school and why the students can have a better performance if they like their teacher. The participants of the research were ten adolescents, five third graders from the school and five third graders B, from a public school of the State of São Paulo. The qualitative research inserted into the interpretative paradigm was conducted as a case study and data collection done by semi-structured interview. The methodological framework used for the analysis of the data was based on the Client-Centered Approach of Rogers (1977 and 2012) and its implementation in education, and was complemented with studies of Krashen (1988), Duarte (19888 and 1996), Stevick (1982). The study pointed out the important role of the teacher as facilitator of student learning, and that which should be able to understand the needs and expectations of students regarding their learning
