Tradução de letras de música: análise de caso nas animações Mulan (1998) e Enrolados (2010)

Song translation is not a field that has many published works compared to other translation specialties. In order to explore and understand more this subject, the main objective of this research paper is to present a qualitative analysis of the strategies in the process of translating lyrics. It is proposed to highlight the main changes between source text and target text of songs from the animations Mulan (1998) and Tangled (2010) produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios. As a theoretical basis, there will be the Translation Modalities formulated by Francis Henrik Aubert (1998), the concept of Semantic Equivalence addressed in an article by Ignacio Antonio Neis (2014), poetry translation theory presented by Paulo Henriques Britto (2012) and Mário Laranjeira (2003) and finally, theories regarding song translation presented by Peter Low’s Pentathlon Principle (2005), besides some important considerations pointed out by Jahon Franzon (2008). For the purpose of helping the development of analysis, selected excerpts of the songs were divided into three distinct groups that indicate the degree of changes done during the translation. In the analysis, it was verified the translation processes of each group of excerpts, relating the choices of translation to the contexts of each animation and essential criteria of song translation. According to the results, it was found that, despite the difficulty of formulating a cohesive and singable text in the target language, the translations were adequate
