This essay presents a study surrounding the examination about the International Maritime Law and which is its influence to the negotiation of maritime charter contracts. Based on the fact that the international trade grows every year, therefore, it is necessary to best regulate and coordinate the international maritime transport and one of these tools is the maritime charter contract. This bipolar contract is made between the owner and the charter, in which the charter aims to use a vessel that belongs to the owner in order to commercially explore the merchant shipping industry. The main goal of this research is to demonstrate – by the study over the fonts of International Law, the concept and historical analysis of the International Maritime Law and the demonstration of the role of the Maritime Law’s actors in the international scenario – which are the main technical features, types and problems of the maritime charter contracts, since the shipping industry is the main transportation to the international trade.
