The paper presents a general diagnosis of the current it governance at a private/public foundation, focusing on the areas of maturity and excellence of IT products, management of information security and IT service management, presents a brief history of corporative governance and IT governance, differentiating governance from management. The study considers overall that a good IT governance to work requires team knowledge, of the reality of the current organization and sponsor from the senior management, describes a few frameworks such as ITIL, CobiT and CMMi. It casts a few difficulties and possible gains with the implementation of a good IT governance plan. Ends by concluding that the perception of the IT area by the remaining areas within the foundation has the potential to improve a lot and still concludes that the changes within an area influences positively the remaining areas because this processes are inter-related
