Resumo: The aim of the study was to uncover the perceptions of a group of intellectual disabilities related to aging and old age. The study setting was the Association of Parents and Friends of Exceptional Children, Rio Grande do Upstate South. A total of ten people with intellectual disabilities. We conclude that the intellectual disabled people perceive a rather negative view of the aging process in the context of disrespect for the rights of the elderly in society.

O cenário do estudo foi a Associação de Pais e Amigos dos Excepcionais, do norte do estado do Rio Grande do Sul. Participaram dez pessoas com deficiência intelectual. Conclui-se que as pessoas deficientes intelectuais percepcionam uma visão bastante negativa do processo de envelhecimento, no contexto do desrespeito aos direitos do idoso pela sociedade.
