Resumo: Beginning with the ordinary silencing and the constant invisibility concerning the professional activity of the proofreader of academic texts, this research has the working activity of proofreader of texts in doctoral dissertations as an object of analysis. Our research employs Bakhtinian assumptions and establishes an interface with ergological studies to analyze the text revision activity in order to problematize proofreader´s work and, mainly, to observe the dialogical relations involved in this task. The specific goals of this research intend to: a) investigate the existence of the proofreader´s voice in the final version of doctoral dissertations and its discursive relevance for the text revision; b) analyze how the overlapping of proofreader´s own word and someone else´s word occur in the dialogical relationship between the reviewer and the author of text; c) observe aspects arising from the interrelation between norms and renormalizations of the activity of revision of doctoral dissertations; and d) verify axiological positions of both proofreader and author through the actions developed by proofreader and author during the review as well as observe the nature of the relation between those subjects and the text. Thus, the material of this research is: i) e-mails exchanged between the authors of dissertations and the proofreaders; and (ii) revision processes in the versions of texts from students of different areas of knowledge, which are, excerpts extracted during language exchanges - sections with their respective comments inserted through available editing tools such as Word. This way, the excerpts from the analyzed texts and the comments in the versions that constitute the text final version allow us to contemplate different stages of development of the written production as well as to observe the existence of the proofreader´s voice as well as the discursive relevance in the last version of the texts. Moreover, these stages of elaboration of the revised text also allow us to analyze how the overlapping of the proofreader and author's words occurs in the final version of texts, in other words, in what ways the words of these interlocutors interrelate in the final texture of the text reviewed. The e-mails exchanged between the subjects of the review activity, in turn, allow us to observe aspects arising from the interrelation between norms and renormalizations of the activity in the work developed in the academic dissertations, since it is by e-mail that subjects debate both the definition of revision contracted and how it is developed. Finally, the selected material allow us to verify the axiological positions of both (proofreaders and authors) through the actions developed by them during the review and also to observe the nature of the relation between the subjects and the text. Thus, in the analyzes developed, we observe statements exchanged between proofreaders and authors of revised theses that reflect a working idea together, considering that the revision of texts is being built in the interaction with the author, instead of being an individual work, centered on the proofreader. When considering the reviewing as the focus, from ideological signs emerge dialogic relationships that reveal different discursive voices and value accents for the proofreader´s job, which qualify this activity and give clues of a cooperative work. These considerations help us to build the thesis of this research that is to show the activity of reviewing academic texts as an essentially collaborative doing between author and proofreader. It demonstrates therefore, that the academic text that goes through the revision process is, in a way, (co) produced jointly by the dissertation author and the proofreader from the overlapping of their voices in the final texture of the written production. The proofreader, in this web of meanings, occupies a place marked by approximations and distances both from the author of the text and from the textual production itself. This professional seeks a balance between placing himself in the locus of the other - empathic movement - to understand the general creation of the writing, and moving away - exotopic movement - to act as a critical reader, able to observe the whole project to say, foreseeing possibilities for a better completion of the text.

Submitted by PPG Letras (letraspg@pucrs.br) on 2018-02-21T20:19:38Z No. of bitstreams: 1 TESE_Vanessa.pdf: 1555897 bytes, checksum: fc90d369bd5074faaf2a7af3b1b453e8 (MD5)Approved for entry into archive by Caroline Xavier (caroline.xavier@pucrs.br) on 2018-02-26T18:28:57Z (GMT) No. of bitstreams: 1 TESE_Vanessa.pdf: 1555897 bytes, checksum: fc90d369bd5074faaf2a7af3b1b453e8 (MD5)Made available in DSpace on 2018-02-26T18:38:30Z (GMT).
