Resumo: Ao reunir a literatura existente tendo em vista um mais amplo debate sobre repatriamento e examinar como diferentes vertentes dentro desta discussão, beneficiam ou restringem, o trabalho pretende acrescentar e potencialmente esclarecer a discussão acadêmica e profissional existente sobre o repatriamento a partir de coleções de museus, tendo em vista a compreensão de como essas interações irão continuar a definir-se e a desenvolver-se no futuro. Não se trata nem uma justificação nem da exploração de uma posição particular sobre esta questão controversa na prática museológica, mas sim uma investigação sobre o funcionamento interno do processo de repatriamento, da legislação, das obrigações profissionais e da discussão que rodeiam esta questão.
