Insufficient medical education on women’s health: analysis of a brazilian curriculum

The National Curriculum Guidelines (NCG) that guide medical courses establish that the curricular organization should address the health needs of the people and populations mentioned, including those related to gender. It was verified the adequacy of the curricular matrix of the medical course of the Federal University of Alagoas to the competencies and skills related to women’s health suggested in the NCG and in international reference documents in medical education. In addition, it was verified whether mandatory curricular voids are complemented by activities inherent to the parallel curriculum. Exploratory documental research, descriptive-analytical type, with a quantiqualitative approach. The results confirm gaps in the curriculum matrix with the need for review to integrate the axes in the different learning cycles, the expanded attention to the psychosocial and ethical aspects, and the updating of aspects considered Fundamental to the profile of the egress, citizen, socially responsible. The boundaries of documentary analysis should be widened by inducing group teaching work for curricular updating.
