Resumo: The copper reducing substances which may be found in the urine are, in practice, glucose (dextrose), laevulose (fructose), galactose, maltose, lactose, pentose (usually arabinose). In concentrated urine slight reduction may be at times produced by creatinin, uric acid, glycuronates (after the administration of certain drugs such as amidopirin), salicyluric acid (from intense salicylic treatment), homo gentisic acid (alkaptonuria). As long age as 1917, I published with Dr. F. E. Taylor (British Medical Journal. December 29, 1917), a number of mycological and bacteriological procedures devised by myself some years previously in Ceylon, for the detection and identification of some of these substances, and also of some non-reducing substances. Until our publication appeared, glucose was the only sugar for the identification of which a mycological method was used in pathological laboratories.
