The teaching of the Nature of Science and Technology in a university didactic class

Resumo: The central objective of this research is to improve the understanding of the Nature of Science and Technology in the teaching staff. For this, a Didactic Unit (DU) was developed on the teaching of the sciences through cartoons. The UD was applied in a course of Didactics of the Natural Sciences of the Degree and Teachers in Education. Students were surveyed through a Pre-Test and a Post-Test, before and after the application of the UD, respectively, compared to a control group. The tool used was the Science, Technology and Society Opinions Questionnaire (COCTS). In addition, a personal interview was held with some members of the course. From the statistical analysis of the Pre-test, it is observed that the control and experimental groups present small differences in effect size, and there are no significant differences in the attitudinal indices. In both groups, very positive indexes were obtained, indicating the strengths, and some very negative indexes in others, which would show weaknesses. On the other hand, from the personal interviews, the participants showed that the tool was very useful and that allowed them to innovate in their classes.

Para ello, se desarrolló una Unidad Didáctica (UD) sobre la enseñanza de las ciencias mediante dibujos animados. La UD se aplicó en un curso de Didáctica de las Ciencias Naturales de la Licenciatura y Profesorado en Educación. Los estudiantes fueron encuestados a través de un Pre –Test y un Pos-Test, antes y después de la aplicación de la UD, respectivamente, en comparación con un grupo de control. La herramienta utilizada fue el Cuestionario de Opiniones sobre Ciencia, Tecnología y Sociedad (COCTS). Asimismo, se llevó a cabo una entrevista personal con algunos integrantes del curso. A partir del análisis estadístico del Pre-test, se observa que los grupos control y experimental presentan pequeñas diferencias en el tamaño del efecto, y no hay diferencias significativas en los índices actitudinales. En ambos grupos, se obtuvieron índices muy positivos, lo que indicaría las fortalezas, y algunos índices muy negativos en otros, que mostrarían debilidades. Por otro lado, a partir de las entrevistas personales, los participantes manifestaron que fue de mucha utilidad la herramienta brindada y que les permitió innovar en sus clases.O objectivo central desta investigação é a compreensão da natureza da ciência e da tecnologia no desenvolvimento profissional. La UD se aplicou em um curso de Didática das Ciências Naturais da Licenciatura e do Profesorado em Educação. O estudante estuda o desempenho de um pré-teste, antes e depois da aplicação da UD, respectivamente, em comparação com um grupo de controle. La herramienta fue el cuestionario de Opinions sobre Ciencia, Tecnología y Sociedad (COCTS). Asimismo, se llevou um cabo pessoal com algunos integrantes del curso. A partir de uma análise comparativa do teste Pré-teste, o controle e as diferenças experimentais podem ser diferenciados no tamanho do efeito, e não há diferenças entre os índices de desempenho. Em ambos os grupos, os indicadores foram positivos, enquanto que as forças de apoio, e os algúrios mostraram-se muitíssimos positivos, que demonstraram debilidades.
