Resumo: In this study, we analyzed the association of high school students’ career adaptability (as expressed in Curiosity, Concern, Control, Confidence dimensions) with a set of sociodemographic (gender, geographical zone of residence, parental education), school path (grade point average [GPA], retentions, participation in extracurricular activities) variables. We also tested whether reported previous participation in career development activities, and occupational activities had a relation to present career adaptability. The sample consisted of 201 Portuguese high school students, aged 16 to 23 years-old (M = 17.56, SD = 0.89). We used a sociodemographic survey and the Portuguese version of the Career Adapt-Abilities Scale. The results did not show a significant global effect of sociodemographic variables in students’ career adaptability, with the exception of a small magnitude effect of the area of residence (rural) on Control, and of gender (female) on Concern. A significant association between academic performance (moderate for GPA, weak for retentions) and career adaptability was found. Previous participation in career education and development activities, or having occupational activities, did not associate to career adaptability in the present sample.

A significant association between academic performance (moderate for GPA, weak for retentions) and career adaptability was found. Previous participation in career education and development activities, or having occupational activities, did not associate to career adaptability in the present sample.
