Resumo: | Oporto and the Douro: views and monuments, whose text and graphic arrangement oversaw Frederic P. Marjay, was published in 1955 by Bertrand, in Lisbon, Portugal. It occupies an unnoticed place among the various publications of Portuguese tourist propaganda that conveyed the idea of a picturesque and progressive country, which began to be defined by the "Política do Espírito" around 1932, but with roots in the last years of the Monarchy. The book, with a part composed as an album, attracts attention due to its entire page black and white photographs: views of places, monuments, reproduction of historical paintings and portraits of social types, marked by a contrasting rhythm of B&W photos, with pictorial characteristics. To analyse the graphic arrangement of the work, under the responsibility of F. Marjay, and to understand, through the photographers and their photographs, the meanings of this work (propaganda, political and artistic), reflecting on the themes conveyed is our main objective. |
