This study was carried out with a group of thirty-one participants, students from the 2nd and 3rd cycle Monsenhor Miguel de Oliveira Basic School, attending the 8th and 9th grades. It was intended to understand the influence that Physical Education has on the Physical Literacy of students, specifically in relation to the cognitive domain. A quantitative methodology was applied and a closed-response questionnaire was applied, consisting of questions from three domains: cognitive, social and psychological. Given the large extension of this instrument, and, consequently, the large amount of data, we decided to focus this study only on the cognitive domain. The questions related to the cognitive domain were categorized in accordance with the contents of essential learning (“healthy eating/nutrition”, “physical fitness”, “risks and injury prevention” and “recommendations for the practice of physical activity”) and then the results were analyzed. The results reveal students' knowledge about healthy eating, but not about physical fitness, injury prevention and recommendations for physical activity, whose results demonstrate an average knowledge of what is proposed in essential learning for the teaching cycle. inquired.A literacia física é algo que resulta de uma Educação Física de qualidade e que deverá ser conseguida por todos os estudantes no final da respetiva escolaridade obrigatória, já que ela se traduz na aprendizagem de competências de vida e valores necessários para uma cidadania ativa e global. Este estudo foi realizado com um conjunto de trinta e um participantes, alunos da Escola Básica 2º e 3º ciclos Monsenhor Miguel de Oliveira, a frequentarem os 8.º e 9.º anos da escolaridade. Com ele pretendeu-se perceber a influência que a Educação Física tem sobre a Literacia Física dos alunos, especificamente em relação ao domínio cognitivo. Foi aplicada uma metodologia quantitativa e para tal aplicou-se um questionário de respostas fechadas, composto por questões de três domínios: cognitivo, social e psicológico. Dada a grande extensão deste instrumento, e, consequente, elevada quantidade de dados, decidimos focar este estudo apenas no domínio cognitivo. As questões relativas ao domínio cognitivo, foram categorizadas em conformidade com os conteúdos das aprendizagens essenciais (“alimentação saudável/nutrição”, “aptidão física”, “riscos e prevenção de lesões” e “recomendações para a prática de atividade física”) e de seguida foi feita a analise dos resultados.
